If you’ve decided to take some time for yourself and escape the everyday hustle and bustle, you might be going on a three-day getaway soon. However, you might be struggling with what to pack for your trip as you don’t want to drag around too much luggage, but at the same time, you also don’t want to forget about something essential and have to make an unnecessary purchase.

With that in mind, first, you need to determine the purpose of your trip. Are you going to a spa retreat, escaping to nature, or visiting a big city? Then, you also need to remember to look up the weather conditions beforehand, to prevent being caught off guard by heavy rain or snow. Lastly, you need to take into account how you will be traveling. Is it by plane, train, bus or car? This can also impact what kind of bag you should take.

Now, let’s see what needs to find a place in your bag for a successful three-day getaway.

Clothes

For starters, you will need clothes, of course. What you need to pack depends on the activities that you plan on doing during your trip and the kind of weather you can expect.

So, if you’re going to be spending a few days at a spa, you don’t need much. Pack a few pairs of pants and maybe one pair of shorts or a skirt if you prefer those. Two base-layer tank tops should be enough for the trip as you will probably have one on while traveling. A few shirts and a hoodie or cardigan are also essential. Don’t forget a few pairs of socks as well as enough underwear for three days. Additionally, a few swimsuits might also be necessary.

On the other hand, if you’ll be spending most of your time outdoors, you might need to bring a few more items. In case bad weather catches you off-guard or some garments get unexpectedly dirty, you’ll be glad you brought a spare. Furthermore, you should also think about adding a jacket or coat that will keep you warm if it gets cold suddenly.

Plus, if you intend on attending a party or going to a fancy restaurant, make sure to bring at least one outfit that will match the setting. While a dress might take up less space, packing a few items that can be combined and used for other purposes as well might be a better move.

No matter the time of year or your destination, a good tip to always have in mind is to pack layers as that will make it easy to put more clothes on and take some off.

Shoes

When it comes to shoes, you have a few options. For one, if you expect predictable weather throughout your trip, you might not have to bring any other footwear apart from what you’re traveling in. If it’s a comfy pair of sneakers or boots, you could be good to go, especially if they are waterproof as then not even rain can catch you unprepared.

However, if you plan on going out, you can also bring some fancy footwear, such as heels or dress shoes. Lastly, don’t forget to pack slippers to have something to wear around your room. If the place where you’re staying has communal showers, flip-flops or slides are a must.

Accessories

You also don’t want to overlook accessories. While they typically don’t take up too much space, you still don’t want to bring along things that you will simply not get a chance to wear. With that in mind, if you’re going to a sunny location, sunglasses are a must. Visit a local bulk billing optometrist to get a quality pair that is just right for you. Furthermore, to stay protected from the sun, pack a bucket hat or a baseball cap.

On the other hand, if you expect colder weather, a beanie, gloves, and a scarf are probably the best way to stay warm in addition to having a wind- and waterproof jacket. Keep in mind that sunglasses can also be useful during the winter, especially if it’s snowing.

Moreover, while a handbag or backpack that you will take with you while you explore your location can be a good addition, you might not have to pack it in the suitcase. Lastly, you can bring some cute jewelry but don’t go overboard as you don’t want to lose something precious.

Electronics

Tech shouldn’t be forgotten either. Pack your charger and portable battery as well as your earbuds. If you think you’ll need some entertainment during the trip, bringing your laptop is also an option, but you might want to take this opportunity to explore your new surroundings instead of binging a TV show. Plus, it’s a short trip so you probably won’t need this anyway. If you plan on walking a lot, you can also invest in a smartwatch that will keep track of your steps and other metrics.

Toiletries

If you’ll be staying in a hotel, there is no need to bring shampoo or body wash as these are typically provided for you. Of course, if you use some special products, don’t forget them.

What you need to remember, however, is sunscreen and any essential skincare products. Moreover, if you use makeup, bring the few select items you might need the most. A toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, perfume/cologne, and some basic OTC meds should also find a place in your bag.

Other essentials

Depending on what you’d like to do during your trip, there are some other things you can bring along. For instance, if you like reading before bed, pack the book you’re currently reading or the one you’ve been planning to start for a while. Then, if you’ll be spending plenty of time outside, a reusable water bottle or a thermos is vital. Something else you shouldn’t overlook is snacks as they can be handy during the trip there or when you’re craving something sweet back in your room.

Finally, you don’t want to forget any essential documents, money, and medications you might be taking.

Keep these tips in mind and you’re ready for your getaway. Bon voyage!
