BALLET

Queensland Ballet – 24 hour Giving Day

WORDS: Queensland Ballet PHOTOGRAPHY

Queensland Ballet (QB) will hold its annual Giving Day from 7pm on Thursday 24 June, asking supporters to Come together for Queensland Ballet and raise vital funds to support its vision to enrich the lives of as many people as possible through the magic of ballet.

For 24 hours, every donation will be quadrupled thanks to generous match donors.  $10 becomes $40, $100 becomes $400 and $10,000 becomes $40,000.

Artistic Director Li Cunxin AO urges that we need to work hard and come together to sustain QB, a not-for-profit charity.

“We have achieved so much over the last nine years.   We have dared to dream big, and we continue to do so, despite the odds.  We might make it look easy to do what we do” he said “but it really isn’t.  Just as our dancers look calm to our audiences whilst they are breathless as they strain for excellence within themselves, so too are we calmly delivering all our endeavour for as many people as possible whilst stretching our capabilities – financial, professional, emotional – behind the scenes.”

“QB is committed to presenting world-class ballet productions, providing training pathways for dancers through our Academy training programs, delivering experiences to the wider community which stretches from ballet for health, such as our Dance for Parkinson’s program, to taking ballet out to regional Queensland as far as we can go,” he said.

“In 2022, we’ll open the doors to our Thomas Dixon Centre in West End, our heritage home that has been so carefully restored to be a cultural destination for all” he said.

Such grand dreams would not be possible without our supporters, donors, corporate partners and Governments – State, Federal and Local.

“At the end of this financial year, if you believe in Queensland Ballet and our vision to enrich as many lives as possible through performance, touring, training, community initiatives and all that we do, please consider supporting us.  Our responsibility is huge: we employ dancers, dance teachers, artists, arts workers, creatives, backstage crew and countless enablers – all coming together to create the magic of ballet.  We work hard to achieve the impossible.  Please help us get there,” he said.

Come Together for Queensland Ballet’s launch will be accompanied by a series of heart-warming stories of the people who have had positive experiences with QB. They are the stories of our QB community.

“At Queensland Ballet, every step is a story.  These are the stories of our dancers, our students, senior dance class participants, lovers of ballet, and alumni.  We want to share these inspiring stories and you’ll see why we believe in what we do and why we are so stubborn about wanting to continue doing it,” said Mr Li.

“This Giving Day is a significant one for us.  We love the dynamic nature of Giving Day.  Watching your donations quadruple in real-time is inspiring, it’s fun and it’s incredible!  We have been working together with our match donors to ensure it is as impactful as possible.  As a not-for-profit charity, your support makes a difference.  My family and I are match donors this Giving Day.  Join us to help QB be all we want it to be.  For you, for me, for everyone.” Mr Li concluded.
