Premier Invitational 2020

The Gold Coast is gearing up to host one of the biggest junior football (soccer) tournaments of the year.

The event could end up with over 150 teams and close to 2000 players participating. The Girls teams competition will compete on Monday 21st, and Tuesday 22nd September and the boys competition teams will compete on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th September.  The Under 8’s and Under 12’s will be played from Sunday 27th to Tuesday 29th September.

Adem Poric said “We’ve been delighted by the interest from Clubs in difficult circumstances. We’re also delighted to announce the diamond series which will see smaller qualifying tournaments take place in December 2020, January, April and September 2021. Winners of each diamond series will gain free entry into the next Premier Invitational.

Cr for Division 8 Bob La Castra is pleased once again to provide his support to the event. Cr La Castra said “As Chair of the Economy Tourism and Events Committee I’m pleased to provide my support… Of the 100 teams that participated last year, 47 were external to the Gold Coast…  The City will benefit by bringing tourism back into the area after the effect of COVID – 19… “.

Andrew Robinson mentioned this year has had its dilemma due to COVID – 19, however working with Football Queensland (FQ), Football Gold Coast (FGC) and Queensland Clubs we’ll get the tournament up and running. Usually, the event runs in June/July however due to restrictions we have had to move this back to September. With both FQ and FGC seasons still up and running the dates of the tournament were vital for all stakeholders to go ahead.

The tournament is broken down, so teams are coming in on different days and at different time slots. This also allows teams to experience the Gold Coast away from the tournament.

This year we’re also delighted to partner with Tourism Events Queensland, City of Gold Coast, Mercedes – Benz Gold Coast, Coastal Dental Care and G: Link.

The event is growing from strength to strength year on year and will soon rival the Kanga Cup in Canberra.

We’re making the event one that every club pencils into their calendar at the start of the year. We have waiting lists for Clubs to come in. In 2018 we started Premier Invitational TV, and this continues to be a massive hit. In addition to this, we will be launching the new Premier Invitational App so parents can keep up to date with fixtures and results. We also have a competition for the best goal, action shot, save and celebration. This year the prizes for each age group will be supplied by Base Compression, Hungry Jacks, Grip Star Socks and Ultra Football.
