New Season, New Kit for THE BULLS
WORDS: Jake Savage PHOTOGRAPHY Brian Usher - www.usherusher.com
The Cricket Gold Coast cricket season is nearly upon us and the Bonogin Valley Bulls Cricket Club has unveiled their striking new coloured kit, infused with indigenous influences.
The club’s traditional colours of black, gold and green formed the basis of the new kit, reflecting the deep connection to their roots and the local environment.
The choice of colours wasn’t arbitrary; gold and green were carefully chosen to reflect the club’s connection to the lush landscapes of the Bonogin Valley and the strength that characterises the Bulls’ spirit on and off the field.
The true showstopper of the kit, however, is the gold boomerang positioned prominently at the centre. This meticulously designed element pays homage to the rich indigenous heritage of the region, acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land and their enduring legacy. The boomerang’s graceful curves and radiant gold hue encapsulate a deeper meaning – the continuity of tradition, the pursuit of excellence, and the never-ending cycle of learning and growth.
As the club’s emblem, the gold boomerang also represents the club’s “V” – Victory, Vitality, and Vision. It is a reminder that success is a journey, not a destination and that the bonds formed on the cricket field were as unbreakable as the boomerang’s return path.
The indigenous influence woven into the kit pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of the region, fostering a sense of inclusivity and respect within the club and the broader community.
The design not only celebrates the artistry and symbolism of indigenous culture but also conveys the Bulls’ commitment to embracing diversity and forging meaningful connections.
Beyond the aesthetics, the new kit with its indigenous influences serves as a constant reminder to the Bonogin Valley Bulls Cricket Club of the importance of honouring their heritage, working together as a team, and embracing the challenges that lie ahead. It signifies a chapter of growth, unity, and renewed determination for the Bulls as they embark on another memorable cricket season on the Gold Coast.
There has been a transition in leadership at the Bonogin Valley Bulls Cricket Club for the upcoming 2023/24 Season.
Jake Savage, who served as the inaugural president, has stepped down after six seasons in the role. He’s passed on the responsibility to Jarrod Eltis, who has been associated with the club for five seasons. Jarrod’s recent achievements, including coaching the under 17s to a premiership win last season, have all contributed to his selection as the new president.
Jarrod Eltis brings a strong background to his new role, having gained experience from his time in Newcastle Cricket, and his corporate experience will all play a role in his leadership of the club.
Jake Savage’s contributions during his tenure are noteworthy as well. He served as the President from the clubs inception, has coached under 10s for 4 seasons and was captain coach of the first XI, leading the team to a premiership victory in the 2020/21 season. He also has a successful playing history at the club, having won three premierships, including the recent first XI victory and the club’s first grand final win during the 2018 Winter season.
This transition signifies a change in leadership for the Bonogin Valley Bulls Cricket Club and showcases the club’s commitment to growth and success by entrusting leadership to individuals with a track record of achievements and experience in both cricket and broader professional backgrounds.
