As the Editor of Ocean Road Magazine, I am always on the lookout for interesting stories and in particular, interesting stories about local people. The Gold Coast is a melting pot for a wide variety of successful people who have made this beautiful region home. Over many years, I have had the pleasure of working with many people who in a lot of cases have been quiet achievers, creating significant businesses with little need for pomp and ceremony. They simply just get on with the job and certainly have assisted in the economic growth of the Gold Coast and the surrounding region.

When contemplating our Winter Cover, who better to speak with than Karen Phillips when it comes to business. Karen has for many years run the very successful Women in Business Breakfast series and has an annual awards program that showcases the best businesswomen on the Gold Coast and across the State. After a coffee on Chevron Island to discuss the opportunity, the plan was hatched and Karen set about rounding up five of the annual Women in Business winners to grace the cover of Ocean Road Magazine’s Winter Edition.

All successful in their own right, our Winter Cover tells the story of the entrepreneurial spirit of women across the Gold Coast who are having a go and making it happen.

“Female-led small enterprises are popping up like mushrooms, many in unexpected fields, right across the Coast,” Karen says.
