Things are about to get dangerous with the new 911 Porsche Carrera 4s is in my possession… From its stylish looks and huge horsepower, the all new 3.0L twin-turbo flat-six, producing a whopping 331kw or 450hp is the new Dream Drives for our Winter Edition review. I drove out of Porsche Centre Gold Coast in the most iconic motor car in the world. It’s definately the most admired and respected on the road today.
There really isn’t much that would come close to this on our Gold Coast Streets; I’m talking 0-100 in 3.4 seconds, which is super quick and ever so smooth. The Turbos kick in and before you know its time for the brake pedal. The 450hp is effortless and as my right foot wanted to push harder it really wasn’t necessary but always handy knowing it’s there if needed. Sport plus mode was chosen on most occasions allowing the exhaust to breathe and sound super sporty. It has a really deep note and one that most will stand and admire as you drive past in the street. The 911 is so well respected not only for its design but for the sound and presence it has both on and off the track.
There’s the usual abundance of possibility to tailor the driving experience by picking options such as lowered sport suspension, active four-wheel steering, active anti-roll bars (which can only be had in combination with four-wheel steering), carbon-ceramic brakes and Porsche’s familiar Sport Chrono package. The 911’s handling is every bit as immersive as ever when you want it to be.
Porsche’s new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox which adds dynamic engine mounts and launch control, among other things. Electronically controlled adaptive dampers and an electronically locking rear differential are now fitted as standard.
Step Inside…
An all-new seat design features inside, allowing you to sit 5mm lower in the car. Not that you’ll notice straight away. You’ll be too busy admiring what Porsche has done to bring the 911’s interior up to date and what a spectacular result it has achieved.
The 911 inside is sheer quality, onboard technology and superior interior style, and so you’re left in no doubt whatsoever that what you’re sitting in is a very expensive and only the very best. I am a huge fan of the new, horizontally oriented dashboard that harkens back to classic 911s. The raised center console and its touch-capacitive controls, meanwhile, add a touch of modernity, as does the 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Both setups are very pleasant to operate and look amazing in operation.
Luxurious? You’d use the word in a heartbeat if not for the philosophical problems that present when associating it with the most celebrated sports car there is.
New induction, injection and exhaust systems have been applied to Porsche’s 3.0-litre turbocharged flat six and isn’t it noticeable. “It’s burbles from 3000rpm but still vividly rewards you for hanging on above 5500rpm and upwards beyond 7000rpm, all the while endowing a performance level that you’re highly unlikely to feel the need to ever upgrade.”
Porsche’s new system of turbochargers has added some extra induction noise for added sonic drama and I will never complain about this noise coming from the rear of the car as I cruise with the window half down to take it all in. My test of the car was undertaken only on the streets of our glitter strip however it was still put through its paces and results were amazing.
I also have to mention as a family man this car certainly doesn’t look like one you would drop the kids to school in however there are two rear seats for kids and are a huge bonus when these are required. However to look at the car – they are certainly not visible.
