‘Vertical beach houses’ raise the bar for Gold Coast design

Architects bureau^proberts continue to raise the bar for residential design on the Gold Coast with the release of Beach House, a development of 12 whole-floor apartments in a prime location at Broadbeach. The project is the latest in bureau^proberts fifteen-year evolution of the whole-floor apartment model, which includes 77 Jefferson at Palm Beach and NORTH Residences at Burleigh.

bureau^proberts Director Liam Proberts says the apartments are for people seeking a home rather than a holiday house. “Empty-nesters don’t always want to down-size,” Liam notes. “They may still want the same amount of space, just a change of lifestyle.” Whole-floor apartments also appeal to people seeking a second home where they can enjoy European-style living with Gold Coast weather.

Described as ‘vertically stacked beach houses’, the luxury residences by developer Andrews Projects will provide occupants with unrivalled views and superior facilities, right in the heart of the bustling Broadbeach community.

The orientation of the site drove the design, which takes advantage of its north-eastern aspect to provide generous and highly functional floorplans that maximise views from every angle.

bureau^proberts Project Design Director Kelly Geldard says the design takes its cue from the shifting sands and lapping tides of the adjacent beach, just steps away from the lobby. “The curvilinear building form allows spaces to project forward for views and retreat for privacy,” says Kelly. “The wide, northern frontage delivers high levels of natural light and ventilation, unique for this type of dwelling.”

The floorplan separates the public spaces from the bedrooms in a similar way to a traditional house. A seamless flow from the front balcony through the living spaces and out to the rear balcony channels the breeze. Floor to ceiling double-glazed windows allow light to stream in from every angle, whilst exterior screens provide privacy to the bathrooms.

The organic shapes of the building’s exterior carry through to the quietly luxe interiors, where curved walls and joinery convey warmth and sophistication. A restrained and understated colour palette evokes the pale sands of the beach below and allows the dramatic views to take centre stage.

Residents will benefit from the resort-style convenience of an upper-level gym with sweeping ocean vistas, and an infinity-edge pool on the rooftop positioned for all-day sun. Ample downstairs storage will accommodate bikes and surfboards.

“We’re excited by the opportunity to create contemporary, coastal design that contributes to the unique, evolving spirit of the Gold Coast,” says Liam. Strong initial sales are testament to the quality of the design, with construction now underway.
