In a vibrant afternoon filled with purpose and heart, the Gold Coast community gathered at the stunning Kirra Beach House on Friday, May 16, to celebrate a milestone — the 10th anniversary of YOU CAN SIT WITH ME. The oceanfront venue set the perfect backdrop for an inspiring fundraising lunch, dedicated to raising $25,000 to support the charity’s mission of combating social isolation across schools, sports clubs, and community groups in Australia.

Hosted by beloved media personality Emily Jade O’Keeffe and Olympic gold medallist Giaan Rooney, the event brought together a room full of changemakers, local supporters, and passionate advocates of inclusion. Their warmth, humour, and heartfelt connection to the cause set the tone for an unforgettable afternoon.

Founded on the simple yet powerful principle that no one should ever feel left out, YOU CAN SIT WITH ME empowers children and teens to show kindness, acceptance, and inclusion through visible support. Recognisable by the bright yellow wristbands worn by participants, the movement has sparked countless acts of friendship over the past decade.

Guests were treated to a delicious lunch, coastal views, and emotional stories of the initiative’s impact in communities nationwide. From teachers and students to parents and local leaders, the event drew a diverse crowd united by a shared commitment to inclusion and mental wellbeing.

“Our goal is to make sure no child feels invisible,” said founder Sophie Sparks during her heartfelt speech. “With every wristband, with every conversation, we remind young people that they matter — and that they belong.”

The lunch wasn’t just about raising funds; it was a celebration of a cultural shift in how we teach empathy and connection. With its grassroots approach and universal message, YOU CAN SIT WITH ME continues to grow in influence, one kind gesture at a time.

As the afternoon came to a close, the sense of unity was palpable. With every dollar raised, the charity moves closer to expanding its reach, ensuring that more children across Australia will find a friend — and a seat at the table.
