In news that will delight Lager beer drinkers everywhere, Distillery Road Market (DRM) has revealed its brand-new anchor tenant this week – Perentie Brewing Co. – a bespoke $6 million-dollar, 1 million litre, architect designed brewery specialising in independently crafted Lager beers, opening mid-2023.

Born from a passion for sessionable beers with a uniquely Australian flavour, Perentie Brewing Co. is helmed by Kenton Campbell, founder of Zarraffa’s Coffee and Tonken Property Group, (the developer behind DRM), with the support and guidance of renowned Burleigh Brewing’s Master Brewer and Founder, Brennan Fielding.

Taking shape inside DRM’s 17,000 square metre precinct in the heart of South East Queensland, in Eagleby, Perentie Brewing Co. will feature a purpose-built brewery and taphouse specialising in authentic Lager beers.

An idea conceived over 15 months ago and progressed during COVID, Mr Campbell’s vision was to create a beer house honouring the traditional German Lager brewing process; to produce a crisp, clean Lager beer with an unmistakably Australian taste.

“In 2015 when I acquired the DRM site, I had a vision to build a bespoke brewery housed in its heart that had the ability to serve up a sessionable craft Lager beer experience, which in my opinion is the heart and soul of beer,” Mr Campbell said.

Utilising classic German lager brewing techniques and authentic German yeast and hops, Perentie Brewing Co. will have the capacity to brew up to 1 million litres.

“I knew I needed the best to realise my vision, and so my first call was to friends and collaborators, Brennan and Peta Fielding from the much-loved and highly awarded, Burleigh Brewing Co.”

“Our longstanding relationship dates back to 2009 and the partnership that delivered the internationally lauded Black Giraffe Black Coffee Lager, crafted by Burleigh Brewing Co. and infused with award-winning Zarraffa’s Coffee. Burleigh Brewing won 5 medals (4 of them gold) at the World Beer Championships with that beer and it’s still a highly requested brew.”

“When Perentie started to become more than just a dream, I wanted to partner with the best, commissioning Burleigh Brewing’s expertise as market-leaders, working with Brennan throughout the entire process.” Mr Fielding is an award-winning Master Brewer and will be instrumental in the development of Perentie,
advising Mr Campbell and the team on brewing equipment, setup and education on the process to produce the perfect Lagers for the local Aussie palate.

“The Burleigh Brewing x Perentie partnership is a unique evolution of the strong relationship Peta and I have built with Kenton and Rachel over the last 13 years, and the mutual respect we share for each other’s business achievements. First and foremost, we are all about quality in our respective products and there is also a deep alignment across our business values. I’m really looking forward to getting the long-planned brewery up and running and I’m stoked that Burleigh Brewing will play an ongoing part in Perentie putting out a fresh, top quality Lager range,” Mr Fielding said.

“My career started in a German Lager focused brewery. Great lagers are technically challenging to brew and nuances in equipment selection and process set-up play a very important part.”

The $6 million-dollar brewery project will continue to shape Distillery Road Market as one of Australia’s leading lifestyle destinations – specialising in quality food, entertainment and market experiences.

The Brewery’s outdoor bar precinct – The Deck Bar – will deliver an alfresco dimension to the DRM experience and a seating space for up to 350 beer lovers to enjoy on a balmy afternoon.

“The Deck Bar overlooks an expanse of the Logan River with views of the original Bickford’s Beenleigh Rum Distillery. A truly localised experience that will create another moment for relaxation and enjoyment, for those visiting DRM.”

Named for the Perentie, the largest monitor lizard native to the Australian outback which treasures every drop it can find; the brewery ethos is that its beers are made to be enjoyed the same way.

“We’re all about each moment when you take a long cold sip, when you can really stop to appreciate things; drink in your surroundings, the company you’re in, the land we stand on,” enthused Mr Campbell.

“We want our Perentie beers to be synonymous with highly sessionable, quality Australian Lagers, produced locally to be enjoyed responsibly.”

“Launching Distillery Road Market was a dream come true for me, and now to be able to bring Perentie Brewing Co. to fruition with the support of Burleigh Brewing is simply incredible,” Mr Campbell said.

“Perentie will be a brewery like no other, serving up quality Lager that is brewed by the best. We can’t wait for the public to be able to experience the Perentie way at our taphouse once the doors officially open.”

Perentie Brewing Co. is set to open to the public mid-2023 at Distillery Road Market, 124 Distillery Rd Eagleby QLD 4207.
