WINE

Taste test: Chocolate in a Bottle

WORDS: Catherine Fornell Hallberg PHOTOGRAPHY Supplied

The sparkling wine was a unique creation by Flemish sommelier Tom De Bruyn, who collaborated closely with a skilled winemaker near Perpignan in the South of France, and together they meticulously crafted this luxurious beverage.
Grapes grown in sandy and slate-rich terriors undergo traditional vinification before being infused with the essence of Belgian chocolate and hazelnut extract.
This resulted in a wine that captivates the senses with aromas of chocolate and hazelnut, leading to a palate where chocolate initially dominates, gracefully transitioning to the fruitiness of the grapes.
Balanced by crisp acidity and delicate bubbles, this very well-crafted wine is best enjoyed chilled – first in the fridge, then briefly in the freezer or ice bucket to reach the optimal serving temperature of 2-3ºC.
Versatile and exquisite, Chocolate in a Bottle pairs harmoniously with a wide range of culinary delights, from snacks and salty dishes to fried delicacies and moderately sweet desserts, elevating every dining experience.
