The free experience combines a breathtaking fusion of art and science, featuring a stunning seven-metre-diameter moon sculpture created by renowned UK artist Luke Jerram. The incredible installation uses detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface while being suspended on HOTA’s striking outdoor stage, providing a captivating and immersive experience for visitors of all ages.
Running from 18 October for two weeks, Wonder offers a full program of captivating events designed to inspire and entertain visitors of all ages with the largely free program. Visitors can immerse themselves in the celestial with Talks & Ideas featuring Swinburne astrophysicist and astronomer Professor Alan Duffy along with Dr Robert Fuller, Paula Rankmore and Lann Levinge and host Wesley Enoch.
Audiences can take in the night sky with First Nations Astronomy Walks, to learn about the rich cultural significance of the night sky and the perspectives of Indigenous storytellers or spend their Sunday mornings participating in Yoga & Music.
Food lovers can indulge in the culinary delights over two evenings exploring artisan stalls as Goodwill Projects (organisers of HOTA’s Farmers and Night Markets) take over the lawn at Night Bites under Lights. For those looking for something more exclusive Lux de la Luna returns for the bespoke ticketed 5 course dinner event, offering a unique one night only dining experience under the glow of the ‘Museum of the Moon’.
Adding rhythm and energy to the magical nights will be a lineup of diverse music acts performing throughout the festival including the ticketed Pub Choir event, followed by a range of free musical offerings including opera and classical Moonrise Sonata, Twilight Jazz and returning for another year is Sunny Coast Rude Boys.
“This year’s lineup is set to captivate audiences with a diverse array of cultural and artistic experiences. Our aim is to bring together the community to celebrate the beauty of art and the magic of the night sky while creating unforgettable memories. We invite everyone to join us at HOTA for an extraordinary program that celebrates creativity, culture, connection, and best yet it’s largely free.” said Yarmila Alfonzetti, Heads of Arts and Culture, Experience Gold Coast.
