Southern Cross University is set to welcome its largest ever cohort in 2020, and will continue taking direct applications until late February.

Senior manager of student management Paul Robinson said Southern Cross University has experienced a seven per cent increase in domestic student applications across its campuses at Gold Coast, Lismore, Coffs Harbour and online compared to the same time last year.

“Southern Cross University’s most in-demand courses for 2020 include the Bachelor of Nursing, Psychological Science, Education, Bachelor of Business, Occupational Therapy and our award-winning Preparing for Success Program (PSP) pathway to University,” Mr Robinson said.
All Saints Anglican School graduate Katie Wainwright is among hundreds of students who will embark on an education degree at Southern Cross from Session 1, 2020.

The talented OP1 recipient had always wanted to become a high school teacher, and was thrilled when her hard work during Year 12 last year paid off with the offer of a full scholarship to study at the Gold Coast’s fastest growing University.

She said Southern Cross is unique in enabling student teachers to complete education double-degrees in the same four years as it takes single degrees at other Universities, and is the only University where successfully graduates automatically qualify to teach NSW and Queensland, creating greater career opportunities.
“Both my parents are teachers and my sister’s also studying education, and I’ve always wanted to help kids navigate one of the most important parts of their life, while they’re learning at school,” said Katie, 17, who will study the Bachelor of Secondary Education/Bachelor of Arts.

“I’m passionate about teaching English and History, because you need to have strong language skills to succeed at anything in life and History is integral to understanding culture and politics.”
