Wolston Farmhouse – Now Open!
Take a drive to Wolston Farmhouse - Brisbane's oldest residential farmhouse steeped in history. Hidden in the bustling fringe of Brisbane's outer suburbs, Wolston Farmhouse showcases what it was like living the rural lifestyle with artefacts and furnishings from over a century ago. With hands-on experiences and good old fashion fun, the kids can step back in time with traditional games popular in the 19th century on the lawn, see the natural flora and fauna of the area, or browse the gift shop… history doesn't have to be boring!

Soak up the warm winter sun with the enduring appeal of the classic wide verandah where you can relax and enjoy a farmhouse morning or afternoon tea, or light lunch in the newly opened Tea Terrace Cafe. Open Wednesday to Sunday 10am-4pm. Wolston Farmhouse is a National Trust of Australia (Queensland) property.

Profile

This edition we profile local music maestro Mark Watson – award winning producer and musician who has achieved national and international success in diverse areas from albums, TV, shows, commercials, theatre music soundtracks and chart topping releases. Mark is the only Australian signed to the world famous European lable Café del Mar and is a regular performer on the Gold Coast music scene.

Who makes up your family?

Our family is Mark, Svetlana, our daughter Anastasia and Mark’s sons Nicholas and Joshua.

Mark’s Mother and sisters and Svetlana’s Mother all live on the Gold Coast.

What’s your favourite thing to do together in the region?

We all have very busy schedules but when we get the chance, we love to go for a bike ride along the esplanade from Main Beach down through Surfers Paradise or to catch a family movie together. Of course the girls always love to drag Mark out shopping whenever they get the chance!

Do you have a family tradition from your childhood that you now share together?

We have family get togethers for the usual events like birthdays which we always tend to end up at one of our favourite picnic spots down at the beach at Currumbin, but Christmas would be the big one where we take turns at having a big Christmas feast and gift giving at our homes.

What connects with you and touches your heart?

It has to be music. Its always been music for Mark with his career as a full time musician for nearly forty years as well as his music production business that is twenty years young. Here he creates music for stage and screen as well as producing other well known musicians and recording artists at his studio, Studio Proof.  Mark lives and breathes music and Svetlana is a faithful passionate devotee to his career and loves dancing! Anastasia has music embedded deeply into her life as she learns piano, sings in the award winning school choir and dances every week at Born to Dance since she was two, learning ballet, jazz, hip hop and contemporary.

What are some of your favourite Family Friendly venues to play at?

After being resident piano man at the Gold Coast Sheraton Mirage for thirteen years, Mark now performs solo all over the Gold Coast, in Brisbane and sometimes on the Sunshine Coast. He also has a band called The Funknwagnells. The band also performs in the same regions but is always extremely popular at The Currumbin RSL where they love to sing and get people dancing!
