ANZAC Eve Symbolic Sleep Out – April 24

Currumbin RSL’s Anzac Day Dawn Service is an iconic Queensland event and it has again joined forces with major supporting partner National Trust Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to offer a symbolic sleep out on the Eve of Anzac Day, within the grounds of the Sanctuary. Guests will experience a unique night under the stars sleeping in swags, and when they wake in the morning will be just a stone’s throw from the Anzac Day Dawn Service at Elephant Rock. The night will include entertainment for young and old and kids will be entertained by a Blinky Bill show and ‘Critter Craft’ area. There will be guided night tours through the Sanctuary and the evening will conclude with the movie ‘Gallipoli’ shown on the big screen. 100% of profits from ticket sales and from the food and beverage sold at the Sanctuary will be donated direct to veteran’s welfare.

FAMILY IMAGE – Casey Barnes

This edition we’re profiling Casey Barnes, local singer/songwriter and all round good guy. Originally from Tasmania, Casey now lives in northern New South Wales with his gorgeous family, and enjoys a very successful career both at home and in the USA.

Who makes up your family?

My wife Michelle and two beautiful daughters, Charly (7 years) and Emmy Grace (2 years) – the girls are the best things to happen to Michelle and I.

What’s your favourite thing to do as a family in the region?

Anything that is outdoors. We love going swimming or taking the girls kayaking, and connecting the girls with the natural environment we enjoy here on the Coast. We’ve recently started going for family picnics on the weekend, the girls really love that.

Do you have a family tradition from your childhood that you now share with your family?

Something we used to do when I was a kid was have a jam session and sing along, and I now get to do this with the girls all the time! They love music and are always dancing around, and it’s so great to be able to get the guitar out and have a sing with them.

Family Travel

Cruising has been the fastest growing sector of the travel industry for a number of years now and is by far one of the best value family holidays! No other holiday option gives you such good value for money with all main meals, transport, accommodation, entertainment, and kids club facilities all included in your one cruise fare. Best of all there are dedicated children’s facilities catering for all age groups and these are generally open from 9am to 10pm every day. Parents can check their children into the Kids Club whenever it suits them! Other highlights are that you only have to unpack once, the food is fabulous with some of the larger ships having 24 hour buffets, there are entertainment activities that will cater for the whole family, and of course the destinations are picture perfect!
