ACCLAIMED AUSTRALIAN ARTIST UNVEILS MASTERPIECE, ILLUMINATING THE SOUTHERN GOLD COAST
One of Australia’s most popular contemporary artists, Lindy Lee, has officially unveiled a stunning integrated artwork which celebrates the southern Gold Coast.
Featured on the façade of S&S Projects ‘Awaken Residences’ and situated on top of the Point Danger peninsula in Rainbow Bay, the massive $1.3 million art installation is an intricate and important part of the development, returning its light to the community after dark.
The artwork can be lit up in colours to coincide with a calendar of events much like the Sydney Opera House during the state of origin, breast cancer awareness month, pride week and more.
Lindy Lee has a career which spans over four decades and is one of the leading contemporary artists working in Australia today, recently being appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia, recognising her distinguished service to contemporary visual arts as a sculptor and a painter.
Lee’s contemporary works have national and international recognition, reaching audiences and critics worldwide in Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, USA, Saudi and the UK.
With influences in Australian culture blended with her ancestral heritage, Lee has created a landmark work of art that combines an international flair with the elements of the local laidback coastal lifestyle, and the important cultural moments of Rainbow Bay.
With Lee based locally in her studio just south of the border, the installation of her artwork is set to bring a sense of community feel back to the area.
“I’m thrilled to finally see this artwork come to life and I truly believe that this is going to become a jewel in the crown for Rainbow Bay and an attraction for locals and tourists visiting the area,” said Ms Lee.
“The artwork draws from considered research into the site’s character and history, framing a curatorial approach for a landmark to reflect the distinct elements of this location and the community.”
S&S Projects Managing Director, Paul Gedoun said that the artwork for Awaken is a reflection of the project’s unique location and was intended to bring incomparable creativity to the Gold Coast and create a cultural focal point for the community to enjoy.
“We wanted to create something remarkable on this site, with a work of art that aligns with the key elements of the relaxed Rainbow Bay lifestyle – the sun, sea and surf, whilst reflecting on the area’s history and geographical significance,” said Mr Gedoun.
“We are proud to unveil this art as more than a façade, rather an expression of our commitment to bringing contemporary art rich in meaning and incomparable aesthetic value to the vibrant community of Rainbow Bay.”
Additionally, to the artwork, Awaken continues to bring value to the community with two exceptional dining venues by Gambaro, Pipi’s Restaurant and Awaken Café.
The two venues immerse diners amongst the exceptional local produce that Queensland has to offer and maintains its connection to the land and sea.
Mediterranean-inspired Pipi’s showcases a prime selection of steaks, an array of fresh seasonal seafood including lobster pasta and the Gambaro specialty seafood platter.
