Raffles Hotel Le Royal

WORDS: PHOTOGRAPHY

Want to explore Cambodia in style? Raffles Hotel Le Royal is just the ticket…

After Amber and I finished our Aqua Mekong river cruise we wanted to experience life in Cambodia, so we went straight to the top and booked into the Raffles Hotel Le Royal.

This began with a private transfer from our boat in a beautiful BMW limousine which took us directly to the hotel.

In Phnom Penh, Raffles is the most exclusive address. It’s refined and has been redefining its guest experience since 1929. We settled in with a swim and lobster around the pool before making our way into a high tea which was organised for us to try at the Elephant Bar (within the Raffles establishment).

The Elephant Bar hosts the largest gin collection in Cambodia with over 100 gins on offer. There were certainly plenty to choose from as we admired the scenery, eating high tea and working out which activities to plan for the day.

It was the last day of our holiday — so last minute shopping was in order.! We took a short taxi to the local shopping village and found everything we could have hoped for. We found great shopping and bargaining of course, even grabbing Nike shoes and hats for under $20.

After returning from the markets, we enjoyed another swim before preparing for a special dinner organised by Michelle Lee -— Area Director for Sales and Marketing.

We enjoyed a Royal Banquet while sipping cocktails and champagne throughout. We were treated to the very best of service as we dined in the wonderful company of Michelle Lee and her colleague Vanessa Han. We enjoyed discussing Cambodian history and cultures immensely, which were most helpful at giving us a far better understanding of real life in Cambodia.

The rooms were amazing and huge whilst all overlooking the pool and tranquil garden settings. This really was the perfect end to our stay in Cambodia.

A beautiful breakfast was consumed before we were ready for our journey home to Australia.

If you’re looking to come to Cambodia there really is only one name to remember — and that’s Raffles Hotel Le Royal.
