Oscar Oscar’s Top Looks For Autumn Hair

WORDS: PHOTOGRAPHY

What’s a season change without a colour refresh or a whole new look? We chatted with the team of expert stylists and master colourists from Oscar Oscar Salons who shared their thoughts on the top hair trends you’ll see everywhere this Autumn…

HAIR CONTOURING

Strobing is no longer just a world that’s associated with the make-up world, it’s just like contouring, but for your hair. Hair strobing as a colouring technique is created by using dark and light colours, applied side by side, making hair appear full and multi-dimensional. This is an amazing way for those with thinner hair to create the illusion of density.

COLOUR ME RONZE

Move over ‘bronde’, ‘ronze’ is the new shade on the block, made famous by the likes of celebrities such as Blake Lively and Julia Roberts. This mixed hue is a blend of luxurious copper reds and gorgeous bronze browns, which add amazing texture and shine to hair. Think warm tones: buttery and coral blondes, creamy chestnuts, rich reds and coppers. Those going ronze should also invest in colour preserving products, like Aveda’s Colour Conserve which maintains hair tone and gives a high-gloss finish.

STATEMENT FRINGES

Autumn/Winter this year is all about the statement fringe, whether it be an edgy and blunt style or a Brigette Bardot inspired grown out curtain fringe. Either can be worn with a centre part, or swept to the side, creating a frame that complements most face shapes.

BABYLIGHT MY HAIR

For a subtle change that will still create the ‘wow-factor’, try updating your look with some ‘babylights’. This involves the delicate highlighting of small strands of hair to perfectly mimic the untouched, multi-dimensional hair colour of children. It’s a great way to go lighter, without an intense blonde commitment.

THE NEW OMBRE

Tired of ombre? Update your colour to a new blend dubbed ‘tortoiseshell’. A mix of chocolate and honey tones are applied through the hair like balayage, in a freehand technique, creating a soft, blended look that’s popular among celebrities like Gisele Bündchen, and Sofia Vergara. This is the perfect option for brunettes wanting a rich, on-trend colour with plenty of dimension.

STANDOUT SHORT

The 90’s beauty resurgence is back and the bob and lob are here to stay. Take cues from celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Jennifer Lawrence and opt for a versatile, shorter look that requires minimal effort, yet looks sleek, sexy and stylish. Tailor this look to suit you by working with an expert stylist to develop the best shape for your face.

HAUTE ACCESSORIES

Hair accessories have stolen the limelight in various fashion shows this season, so we’ll be seeing a major accessory revival through the coming months with headbands, decorative hair pins and barrettes all making the trend list. In saying this, make sure to keep it simple, and always aim to complement your wardrobe rather than compete with it.

COOL IT OFF

Summer has been all about bright, glossy tones but Autumn calls for cooler blondes, that are more muted and less ‘Barbie Doll’. Blending cool highlights over a dark base colour will help lighten your hair without feeling too blonde. It also creates a textured, edgy look perfect for the colder seasons.
