Model of the Month – Caitlin Morgan

WORDS: Ocean Road Magazine PHOTOGRAPHY Supplied by Saint Model Management

1. How long you been modelling for and where were you scouted?

I have been modelling for about 7 years and I was initially scouted on Instagram.

2. Where are you from and your background?

I grew up on the Gold Coast and my mum is from a small town in New Zealand’s North Island; Te Puke.

3. Favourite thing about your home city?

There are a lot of cute cafes and amazing places to eat. I’d have to say that cafe hopping is by far one of my favourite things to do along the coast. Other than that I love the sunsets, the beaches and the laidback lifestyle.

4. What your favourite go-to exercises for working out?

When I was growing up my Saturdays were dedicated to little athletics, so cardio has always been a natural and effortless part of my life. I either walk or run long distance everyday. I love how endurance training can make you feel both mentally and physically strong. Besides that, I throw a few pilates sessions in, I’m actually a qualified pilates instructor, so I manage to make it happen whenever I can.

5. Favourite go-to healthy meal?

I am currently studying Naturopathy, so I have an overwhelming amount of go-to’s when it comes to healthy meal options, but my comfort meal is definitely this specific salad – I pile up shredded roast chicken breast, spinach from the garden, blanched broccoli, crushed walnuts, a boiled egg, parmesan, and a drizzle of peppered olive oil. I feel like I could eat it everyday.6. Healthy morning ritual that you follow to start your day on a positive note? I’ve recently acquired an LED face mask; so I meditate and pray while wearing that as soon as I wake up. Followed by 15 minutes of journaling, usually focused on gratitude.

7. What do you love about modelling?

There are so many creative and interesting people in fashion, so every job is different and the variety of experience is extremely broad. I especially love being in the presence of an artist. It is an honour to be able to help bring their vision to life. It sometimes challenges your own self image and ego, creating an element of healthy detachment as you completely surrender your personal image to the overall piece.

8. What has been your favourite jobs

A few months ago I was in a studio with the cutest bug eyed Chihuahua. I’d occasionally make eye contact with him while shooting and burst into giggles. He had some serious attitude and sass. I also recently walked the Gina Kim Fashion Parade at the Serving Our People Charity Lunch. I got to work with and meet so many talented people, plus a lot of the girls from my mother agency Saint Models were there. It felt like a big family reunion. It’s funny because you recognise and know of everyone, but there aren’t many chances to truly get to know your peers the way you would in other career paths. So needless to say the back room was full of constant chatter haha.

9. Tips for any upcoming models?

Find an agent that you trust and mesh well with. I love my agent Mandy because she is super switched on and cares about everyone individually. And in that same breath, listen to and trust your agents guidance.Make contact with other models and invest in reputable nutritionists and naturopaths to support you. Having a strong support network is essential.

Avoid comparison. Celebrate your achievements and maintain gratitude.
