Nautilus Estate marks a major milestone in 2025, celebrating 40 years of crafting wines that reflect the purity, balance, and distinct character of Marlborough. Established in 1985, the family-owned winery has remained intentionally boutique, allowing for an unwavering focus on quality, site expression, and sustainable winemaking. From the beginning, Nautilus set out to create wines that are 100% Marlborough, shaped by the region’s diverse subregions, soils and microclimates, and each playing a defining role in the Estate’s acclaimed portfolio.

Guiding this evolution for more than three decades is award-winning winemaker Clive Jones. Under Clive’s leadership, Nautilus has balanced tradition with thoughtful innovation: pioneering méthode traditionnelle in the region and successfully introducing varieties such as Albariño and Pinot Gris, while continually refining its vineyard matching to ensure every grape finds its ideal home. This, coupled with strong partnerships with local growers, remains central to the winery’s consistency and the connection to place.

“Our focus has been simple yet unwavering: to craft expressive, textural wines that showcase Marlborough’s unique terroir,” said Clive. “Every bottle reflects the precision, balance and natural beauty found in our namesake, the Nautilus shell, nature’s perfect spiral that represents the harmony we strive for in every vintage.”

A key pillar of the Nautilus philosophy is crafting wines with the table in mind. The Estate’s approach to food and wine pairing is rooted in balance, freshness and texture, qualities that allow its wines to elevate a dish rather than overpower it. This is seen across the portfolio, from sparkling wines designed to complement delicate seafoods, Chardonnays with natural richness suited to refined, savoury dishes and Pinot Noirs crafted with supple tannins ideal for modern, produce-driven cuisine.

At the heart of the collection is the Nautilus Sauvignon Blanc (RRP AUD$32), long regarded as a benchmark expression of Marlborough’s signature variety. The upcoming 2025 vintage showcases intense aromatics of lemongrass, fresh blackcurrant buds, and ripe grapefruit. The palate is bright and energetic with lime zest, mouth-watering acidity and a long, textural finish, qualities that make it a natural partner to flavourful seafood, vibrant salads, and fresh summer dishes.

Nautilus is equally celebrated for its Cuvée Brut, Renwick Vineyard Chardonnay, and Clay Hills Pinot Noir, wines that highlight the winery’s deep understanding of site and its commitment to crafting food-friendly, expressive styles.

As Nautilus Estate enters its fifth decade, it remains true to what has defined it from the start, thoughtful craftsmanship, deep regional knowledge, and a philosophy that celebrates wine as a companion to great food and meaningful shared moments.
