Make a splash!

Spending a day at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has become even cooler with the sanctuary introducing its newest addition, the Wild Island Adventure Splash Zone.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is proudly part of National Trust of Australia (Queensland) and has been an iconic tourism attraction on the Gold Coast for more than 72 years.
This summer, the team at the sanctuary is excited to launch another new precinct, the Wild Island Adventure Splash Zone.
Just a short, scenic walk from the main entrance, the play zone is located next to Pelican Point. Beautiful subtropical flora and fauna and sculptures of Australian wildlife and natural features surround the entrance into the Wild Island precinct.
The Adventure Splash Zone offers kids a range of timed water jets, streams, and waterfalls to run through, and the Wild Island playground has plenty for kids to climb and explore, including wobbly rope bridges, a spider’s web, shaded slides, and a flying fox.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary general manager Michael Kelly said kids can learn about animals, with educational audio spread throughout the playground.
“We’re excited to provide a fantastic new play zone for kids to cool down over the summer months, while enjoying the natural surrounds of the sanctuary,” he said.
“It’s a continued investment in tourism on the Gold Coast on the back of previous improvements in the sanctuary, including the new exotics precinct — Lost Valley — and the relaunch of the Wild Skies free-flight bird show.”
Wild Island offers shaded areas and scattered seating around the precinct where parents can relax and watch the kids play.
Wild Burgers is just opposite, so families are encouraged to grab some lunch and eat in one of the extended picnic areas within the play zone.
The sanctuary understands what families are after. So, as part of this multimillion-dollar precinct upgrade, there are now new centralised bathrooms with a five-star parents’ room, which is a comfortable and relaxing space.
The parents’ room offers two private areas for baby-feeding, a play area for toddlers, three baby change tables and sink, and a kitchenette for warming up baby bottles and food.
The entry to the room is via an automatic sliding door, so if you have your hands full you don’t have to juggle kids, a pram, and everything else!
Both the men’s and women’s bathrooms include an accessible toilet, with ample room to manoeuvre wheelchair and prams, along with a toddler-sized toilet and sink.
After cooling off at Wild Island Adventure Splash Zone, you can continue your day at the sanctuary and experience our exciting shows such as the Wild Skies free-flight bird show, the Gruffalo show, the Blinky Bill show (Blinky Bill’s Studio Adventure), and the Aboriginal Dance Show or the Australiana show.
Discover Lost Valley and interact with exotic species such as lemurs, cotton-top tamarins, red pandas, and capybaras, along with free-flying birds and exotic reptiles. Feeding the kangaroos and a riding on the Currumbin Sanctuary railway are also a must!
Visit the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital and watch the vets in action at one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, and learn how you can help to protect our endangered species.
In addition, the Wild Island precinct offers wheelchair, pram, and walker accessibility all around.
