A landmark anniversary, a historic promotion, and a community united as Magic prepares for its biggest season yet

As Magic United enters its 20th anniversary year, the club stands on the brink of its most defining chapter yet—its long-awaited promotion to compete in the Queensland National Premier Leagues (NPL) from February 2026. What began two decades ago as a grassroots dream has grown into one of the region’s most respected football programs, and now, Magic is ready to take its place on the state’s biggest stage.

The elevation to NPL marks more than a competitive milestone; it represents a commitment to pushing every Magic player toward their highest potential. With a fully united senior structure—from U18s through to first grade—the club has built a team and culture designed for resilience, hunger, and sustained excellence. “We know the challenge ahead requires effort, hard work, and community spirit,” says club leadership. “These are the cornerstones of who we are.”

Magic’s debut NPL match will be nothing short of electrifying. On Saturday, 21 February, the club hosts local rivals Gold Coast United at Birmingham Road Sports Field, in what promises to be the most attended fixture in Magic United history. The newly renovated bar and upgraded canteen will be open, serving cold drinks and great food, while the club’s brand-new deck viewing area is expected to become the hottest seat in town. Fans are encouraged to reserve early.

Senior Coach Brett Budwee is already counting down. “The opening game will be an absolute cracker—I’m expecting the biggest crowd Magic has ever seen,” he says. “Our goal is to be competitive in every game, especially at home, and continue the winning culture we’ve built over the past three years.”

The club is equally energised by the opportunity to face Queensland powerhouses such as Lions, Peninsula Power and MCE—teams with deep resources and long-established reputations. These clashes, Magic believes, will be crucial benchmarks as the club continues to rise.

Beyond the senior spotlight, Magic’s thriving U8 to U18 Academy is also preparing for an exceptional year. With its induction event at the Elite Sports Hotel this month, the Academy remains central to Magic’s long-term vision. “Our Academy gets stronger every season,” says Budwee. “Seeing our junior athletes pack the stands and support senior match days is one of the greatest parts of this club.”

Magic United proudly aims to become the club of choice on the Gold Coast—an environment where aspiring footballers have the support, coaching, and opportunities to grow into future first-team stars. Sponsorship opportunities remain open for those wishing to support Magic’s next generation. The club is also excited to announce Jake Goodship, A Licenced coach that joins the technical department and Senior department for the 2026 Season.

The 2026 season is more than a competition—it’s a celebration of two decades of ambition, heart, and community. And now, with the NPL in sight, Magic United is ready to write its next chapter.
