Life’s greatest pleasures

WORDS: PHOTOGRAPHY

Calling all cheese lovers! If you’re looking for a special spot to settle into for cheese and chats with a stunning view, ORM has found the answer.

When it opened three decades ago, the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort was the only absolute beachfront resort on the Gold Coast. Despite all the cranes in the sky, and eager developments springing up along the coastline, Sheraton remains the only beachfront property.

Well, there is a reason why locals and visitors alike love coming here. Stepping into Sheraton Mirage is like entering a breathtaking new world that’s just that little more luxurious and tranquil.

Walk through the impressive foyer, glance at the picture-perfect sparkling pool below and wander into Pearl’s Bar to take a comfy seat. This is the perfect spot to unwind after a long day, relax and treat yourself (and your friends) to ‘High Cheese’.

You will have heard of high tea, but chances are you haven’t heard of high cheese — until now!

This delicious cheese feast is currently the seasonal special at Pearl’s Bar. The High Cheese menu has been crafted based on modern tastes and sensations, uncovering the very best of chef Ewald Jeske’s pleasures in gastronomy.

Jeske and the in-house team have teamed up their tastebuds with local, carefully selected cheesemongers to put together an extraordinary High Cheese Experience that you can enjoy while overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

This is no ordinary cheese platter. Rather, it’s a decadent three tiers of cheese topped with treats. Each cheese has been carefully paired with sweet and savoury cheese-infused dishes such as cheese scones and prosciutto chards. Strong cheeses are perfectly accompanied with red onion jam, black olive tapenade, and cranberry orange compote.

Savoury cheese offerings include South Cape camembert spiked with prosciutto chards, which has a smooth texture and mild, nutty flavour. Gluten-free Wombat Valley marinated feta is divine, while the Club Vintage Classic Cheddar cheesy scone is matured for 16 months to ensure a heavenly and vibrant drier body.

Roaring ’40s King Island blue nestled on dry pear is a sweeter option with slightly fruity characters. Plus, Cape Wickham King Island brie is forked with fine onion, garlic, caraway, paprika, and house-baked with walnut rye — which really is as rich and delicious as it sounds.

To top it all off, sweet treats include peach and apple mascarpone cheesecake (milky white coagulated cheese), ricotta coffee mousse with pistachio biscotti (whey cheese, slightly sweet), warm, sticky cream cheese cinnamon rolls (65 per cent fat, pasteurized, fresh, soft and creamy).

Well, what are you waiting for!
