Flotsam Festival Launch Wrap-Up — A Sunset to Remember in Coolangatta

Last night, we officially launched Flotsam Festival 2025 with a sunset celebration that perfectly captured the spirit of surf, art, and community. Set against the golden hues of Coolangatta’s beachfront, the evening kicked off at Bar Evelyn, where guests gathered for sunset drinks and a first look at the newest works featured in the Focal Point exhibition — Flotsam’s visual tribute to surf culture and coastal life.

From there, the vibe shifted into gear with a guided walking loop from the Coolangatta Beach House, winding to Kirra Point and back, offering a moment to soak in the scenery, connect with fellow creatives, and sample refreshments along the way. It was a gentle introduction to what would become a high-energy night.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the festival’s Block Party ignited across a cluster of buzzing local venues. VIP guests were given exclusive access to an eclectic mix of programming — from powerful short films and live podcast recordings, to DJ sets and live music that had everyone moving.

With each stop offering something different, it was truly a choose-your-own-adventure evening that reflected the diversity and creativity of the Flotsam program. Whether deep in conversation at a panel session, dancing to coastal beats, or discovering fresh film talent, there was no wrong way to enjoy the night.

A huge thanks to all who joined us — and to those who brought their wingpeople along for the ride! The energy was electric, the connections genuine, and it’s only the beginning.
