How To Find New Ways To Keep Yourself Entertained

Even if they don’t intend to, everyone gets a bit bored from time to time. If you’ve ever been in a situation where the things you like end up leaving you feeling a bit empty and unstimulated, though, you can get your spark back. Here are some of the ways you can find new ways to entertain yourself every day.
Learn Something New
One good way to keep yourself entertained is to learn a new skill. Being able to do something new will take you out of your comfort zone and give you something different to focus on. And it doesn’t have to be a completely new activity either. For instance, if you like games, you could learn to play poker on a betting site not on Bet Stop, which would be quicker because you wouldn’t have to go through know-your-customer checks. Or if you like cooking, you could make a recipe you hadn’t tried before, or linguists could dip their toes in a new language. As is so often the case, small changes can make a big difference.
Change Your Perspective
On a related note, changing your perspective on how you approach your entertainment can keep you engaged. For example, if you like to watch or listen to things, then it might be an idea to do something that you can take part in that’s related to them. Let’s say you like to watch DIY or renovation programs on TV. You could always find a DIY or craft project of your own to do. This would both keep you entertained and could, potentially, give you a fresh perspective on your favourite shows. You could even experiment with your schedules by doing some things that you’d usually do in the morning in the evening, and vice versa.
Randomise Your Activities
When someone finds themselves stuck with nothing to do, sometimes it is because they have too many options. American psychologist Barry Schwartz argued that there is such a thing as the paradox of choice. Using the example of retail, he says having too many options can leave shoppers unsure of what to buy. This is true about people’s interests and hobbies, too. Luckily, there are ways around this. There are apps where you can take a list of options and have it select one at random. You could even do it the old-fashioned way by writing out the things you could do, putting the entries into a bowl, and picking one at random. This would mean that you’d always get a surprise, which would keep things fresh.
Keep Up With Tech
Randomised apps aren’t the only way that technology can keep things fresh. Even something as simple as YouTube’s I’m Feeling Lucky option or Spotify shuffle can give you new things to check out. If you are feeling creative, there are things like GarageBand and Soundtrap, which give you the opportunity to make your own music, while platforms such as Canva and Procreate can do the same with visual art. You could even give yourself a challenge, such as recording a one-minute video or writing a blog post or social media update of exactly 100 words every day for a month.
Gamify Everything
If you are able to get yourself in the right mindset, then everyday routine activities can become fun and entertaining. For example, if you are cleaning or tidying, why not turn it into a speed run by trying to see how much you can do in five minutes? To carry on with the gamifying theme, you could award yourself points for each task you complete and then “spend” them on a reward for yourself, such as a cup of coffee or a break. If you live with other people, you could turn your daily chores into a competition by seeing who can do the most or who can be the quickest. Again, you can create a points system, which could give everyone in your home the opportunity to gain some entertainment by doing things that they have to do all the time.
Although finding new ways to keep yourself entertained can seem rather challenging at first, it is possible. Whether it’s by turning simple tasks into games, using tech to point the way to new experiences, or just by approaching things from a new angle, you can keep yourself entertained.
