The story of how you first met?

We first met in Brisbane and quickly realised there was a special connection between us. Our first date was a relaxed lunch that ended up lasting much longer than expected. Hanna still insists Josh was incredibly nervous and kept staring at her the entire time, something he strongly denies to this day. The date clearly went well because we met again for dinner the very next night, and from there our relationship naturally grew into something deeper.

How did the proposal occur?

Josh proposed during a holiday in Queenstown, New Zealand. The day began with a helicopter flight out to Milford Sound, where we landed among the mountains before making our way down to the water. From there we took a cruise through the breathtaking fjords of Milford Sound, the perfect setting for such a special moment.

Why did you choose The Valley Estate to host your amazing wedding?

We were looking for a venue that felt romantic and filled with natural light. The Valley Estate immediately stood out with its European-inspired architecture and lush gardens. The setting felt incredibly picturesque while still warm and intimate, the perfect place to celebrate with our family and friends.

What inspired you to choose the ceremony location at The Valley Estate?

Josh was very set on having an outdoor ceremony and loved the idea of creating a European garden atmosphere with elegant chairs and umbrellas. The Valley Estate’s gardens created the perfect backdrop for that vision. Hanna’s one condition was that she couldn’t walk on grass in heels, which ultimately inspired the idea of creating a runway-style aisle for the ceremony. Hanna walked down the aisle to a live instrumental version of Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey.

What is your fondest memory of the wedding?

Josh says one of his most emotional moments was standing at the altar and seeing Hanna for the first time as she walked down the aisle. It was a powerful moment, trying to take everything in while holding back tears. Another highlight came later in the evening when guests were seated for dinner and we made our second entrance from The Sanctuary upstairs in The Manor. With cold sparkulars and our favourite song playing, walking down the staircase into our reception space in The Manor while everyone cheered was unforgettable.

What was the inspiration behind your styling?

Our styling was inspired by the dreamy, nostalgic atmosphere of Lana Del Rey’s Chemtrails Over the Country Club, which we both love. We shared that reference with our stylist, The Nuptial Collective, who developed a concept called Pastel Dystopia. It was a moody take on country club romance, blending vintage Americana with soft pastel elegance. The ceremony featured a dramatically draped arch and floral-heavy arrangements in soft creams, greens and pinks. The reception continued that aesthetic with cream and green floral linens, silver cutlery, crystal glassware and layered table settings that hinted at a bygone era.

Details of the dresses, Brand, style, the process:

Hanna worked with Maelle Bridal in Melbourne to create her wedding dress, which was custom made using delicate Italian lace. The timeline was very tight, but the team was able to design and produce the gown in just two weeks, with the final dress completed shortly before the wedding. We are also incredibly grateful to Cat Spanti, who helped introduce Hanna to the team at Maelle Bridal and made the connection possible. Later in the evening, Hanna changed into her second look: a Hana Official Mini Bridal Dress from a Ukrainian designer, which was perfect for the reception.

Details of the Suit, Brand, and style:

Josh wore a bespoke suit made by The Cloakroom. He travelled to Tokyo for the fitting, where the suit was crafted in navy Dormeuil Ambassador fabric. As a personal touch, his name was embroidered in Japanese on the inside of the jacket.

Your favourite dish of the night?

Everything was incredible. We were so caught up in the excitement of the night and spending time with our guests that we barely had time to properly sit down and eat, but the dishes we did try were absolutely delicious. For the reception, we chose The Valley Estate’s alternate drop menu. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed canapés in the garden accompanied by a cheese and charcuterie table with freshly shucked oysters.

Favourite photo location?

Hanna’s favourite photo location was upstairs in The Sanctuary getting-ready space, the light was beautiful and the space felt calm and intimate before the ceremony. One of Josh’s favourite photos is of the two of us standing at the front of The Manor with the doors open, the reception setup visible just behind us, and the florals beautifully framing the moment.

Words of advice for future couples who are planning their wedding:

Having a great team around you makes all the difference. If we were doing it again, we would hire a stylist right at the beginning to help bring the vision to life. We had already started planning a few elements before bringing our stylist on board and realised how helpful it would have been to have that creative direction from the very start. Also, start looking for the dress early. We underestimated how long that process can take, especially if you want something truly special.
