Galway Pipe, the leading Australian producer of fortified wines, is thrilled to announce its triumph at the prestigious Frankfurt International Trophy 2024. With over 2,550 wines tasted from nearly 30 countries, Galway Pipe clinched two significant awards highlighting their commitment to excellence and heritage.

Galway Pipe Bourbon Barrel Tawny 10 YO was awarded the title of Best Wine from Australia in the competition, a significant accolade given the fiercely competitive category. Additionally, the Galway Pipe Grand Tawny 12 YO received the Grand Gold award, further solidifying the winemaker’s position as a leader in the production of exceptional Tawny wines.

“These awards are a testament to our hard work and passion for creating fortified wines that are steeped in tradition and appeal to contemporary palates globally. It’s an honour to be recognised on such a significant stage as the Frankfurt International Trophy,” says Chris Dix, Galway Pipe Head Winemaker and Master Blender.

Founded on a rich history of winemaking, Galway Pipe is named after Sir Henry Lionel Galway, a notable governor of South Australia who was renowned for his discerning taste in fine fortified wines. Today, Galway Pipe continues to craft wines that reflect a commitment to timeless craftsmanship and legacy.

Led by Head Winemaker Chris Dix and Senior Winemaker Chad Smith, Galway Pipe’s winemaking team is dedicated to producing fortified wines that honour the past and set new benchmarks in quality. Both winemakers bring a profound depth of knowledge and passion to their craft, utilising their extensive experience to create wines that are both innovative and traditional.

“The Bourbon Barrel Tawny 10 YO and Grand Tawny 12 YO are products of meticulous care and craftsmanship. These awards reflect the passion and hard work our team pours into every phase of production, ensuring that each vintage meets and exceeds the high standards we set for ourselves. This approach has not only shaped our current offerings but will also guide us as we craft the next generation of exceptional wines,” says Chris Dix.

The Frankfurt International Trophy is one of the most critical wine, beer, and spirits competitions globally, known for its rigorous standards and diverse panel of international tasters, including oenologists, sommeliers, and wine enthusiasts.

Galway Pipe represents the pinnacle of winemaking, focusing on crafting wines that embody the spirit of Sir Henry Lionel Galway’s pursuit of excellence. Nestled in Langhorne Creek, South Australia, Galway Pipe is renowned for its intense, complex fortified wines that reflect this wine region’s unique Mediterranean climate and the brand’s rich heritage. The long oak maturation period and various barrel finishes give the wines incredible depth and complexity, these wines are ready to be enjoyed now or can be cellared for many decades.

Galway Pipe is available nationally at retailers across the country, including BWS, Dan Murphy’s, Liquorland, First Choice and more. I have high-res images available here and have dropped more info on the range below for your convenience.
