From Water Sports to Wellbeing: The Journey of Tim Jack Adams

How a Kingscliff local turned a love of the ocean into a national movement for sustainable wellbeing.

Watersports Guru

Tim’s early days were spent in Kingscliff, Northern Rivers, immersed in ocean culture. In 2009, he founded Watersports Guru, introducing thousands of people to the magic of the sea — from snorkelling with turtles off Fingal Head to mindfulness sessions in Cudgen Creek’s mangroves. Ocean Road first met Tim back in those early days, in one of our debut issues.

His mission was simple: reconnect people with nature, and in doing so, help them reconnect with themselves.

The One Question

In 2012, while hiring out equipment at Watersports Guru and watching families play in the water, a thought struck Tim: “Why is it that when we actively engage in nature, we seem healthier and happier?”

“That’s when I started creating what’s now the GreenX7 Framework — seven simple, science-backed tools to reconnect with yourself and others through nature,” says Tim.

Those seven tools — movement, environment, earthing, time, connection, reflection, and breath — form a framework to recharge and reset for everyday wellness.

Becoming the Wellness Guru

Over the past decade, Tim has become a leading voice in the wellbeing space, working with organisations such as Six Senses, the Australian Defence Force, Red Bull, local councils, corporations, and schools. His mission is clear: help people “check their battery.”

GreenX7, now rolled out nationally, helps individuals and teams assess whether they are thriving, functioning, or surviving — and offers practical ways to recharge. It’s a system built on lived experience, behavioural science, and emotional intelligence.

Recharging Australia — One Person and Team at a Time

From local governments to frontline health teams, from corporate boardrooms to school leadership retreats, Tim’s message resonates: wellbeing isn’t fluff; it’s foundational.

Burnout and other health-related issues cost the Australian economy more than $200 billion annually. But more than the dollars, Tim says, “it’s costing people their spark.”

“We’ve normalised being tired. We’ve accepted ‘functioning’ as the baseline,” he says. “But I want people to thrive — deeply, sustainably, and together.”

Through keynote talks, immersive workshops, and the GreenX7 Employee Empowerment Program (EEP), Tim leads a national movement that asks not just, “Are you OK?” but also, “How’s your battery — and what do you need to recharge?”

From Coastline to Culture Change

Tim’s success isn’t just about methodology — it’s about presence. Whether running a strategy session or leading a sunrise retreat, he brings a calm, grounded energy that puts people at ease.

This month, Tim launched his first book, Energised: The Daily Practise of Connected Leadership and Sustainable Wellbeing, to a packed house on the Tweed Coast. It’s already making waves in bookstores nationwide.

The book combines stories of burnout recovery, actionable wellbeing tools, and a powerful reminder: the best version of you isn’t found by pushing harder, but by connecting to what truly matters.

The Next Wave

Today, Tim still surfs and firmly believes nature is the best medicine. But his mission has expanded well beyond the board, taking him into boardrooms, schools, and council chambers across the country.

When asked what’s next, he smiles: “To create thriving teams and communities across Australia — where wellbeing is baked into our culture, not just stuck on a poster. And where people reconnect to themselves and each other through nature.”
