FILM REVIEW – The Batman

WORDS: David Simons PHOTOGRAPHY Supplied

Being a longtime superhero fan, apart from “Hulk”, Batman was always my favourite. From the early days of Batman and Robin in tights to the modern dark heavy foot Bat, I’m a fan.
Along the way I have seen interpretations of the bat vary. In some previous movies I felt that the producers lost the bat vibe to some degree, he even started killing people and shooting guns, which is not in the true spirit of the Bat character.
This Batman was different, Batman doesn’t like guns, he theoretically doesn’t kill people in this movie although some of the punches would kill me, the fight  scenes are epic and the whole movie is peppered with real Kapow Batman fights.
He demolished everything in his part, the only thing was that Batman actually whimpered a few times, yes whimpered. I really don’t remember ever hearing Batman whimper. The plot was thick, the riddler was brutal and the final scene definitely leaves us wondering what “nemesis” will rise in the next Bat movie.
Batman’s car was the best yet, grungy and jet powered V8 all American petrol guzzling beast. And his cave was a real cave with bats in it. Now to Bruce Wayne.
This is the best Bruce I think I’ve ever seen. Bruce has always been high class, mr smooth but not this Bruce, this Bruce was broody and depressed as you might imagine Batman would be. The bat suit was something different also, filthy street dust and chunks missing, his boots were lurch like .
The crunch is that I watched this amazing movie on V Max, with a bunch of 16 year olds. The movie is 3 hours long and we were all gripped by the experience for the entire time.  8/10
