The HOTA, Home of the Arts precinct will transform for the Kids Take Over Festival from today. HOTA’s annual Kids Take Over Festival is back for another year with boredom busting creative adventures set for Gold Coast kids.
Throughout the Queensland school holidays this jam-packed program has been designed to let the next generation unleash their imaginations with a mix of free and ticketed events including workshops, creative experiences, and performances.
In a first for the festival, brand new experiences will include a dress up party of the century where kids can experience the HOTA Gallery after dark and join the new night guard on shift for A Night at The Gallery, plus a chance for all budding mini master chefs to spend a morning crafting dreamy dishes with Executive Chef, Dayan Hartill-Law, in My Mini Kitchen Rules at Palette restaurant.
This year will also see the return of some festival favourites including new variations of the ultimate scavenger hunt The Quest, as well as Lego Battle enabling kids to unleash their creativity with unique designs. HOTA’s Mini Marketeers also returns for another year, featuring budding entrepreneurs showcasing their ideas and running their own market stalls. Families will get the chance to attend a program of unforgettable live theatre that is sure to captivate the imagination and spark curiosity, including James and the Giant Peach, The Quizzical Mr Jeff and Dr Hubble Bubble.
For those looking to spend a big day out, a range of all-day workshops are on offer, including Behind the Scenes, a documentary making session, Space Designers for kids to use STEAM fields and create habitats for other planets, and the Roald Dahl classic James and the Giant Peach 3 Day Workshop exploring the characters behind the stage adaptation.
Ensuring everyone has the opportunity to experience the program, a range of free activities will be available including Seasons, an interactive forest installation, as well as a range of creative activations for kids to explore from the terrace to the laneway including Chalk Me Up, Portraits and Street Art. Kids can lead the way and spot the locations throughout HOTA!
