Editor’s Note

WORDS: Brian Usher PHOTOGRAPHY Brian Usher & Supplied

To tell the truth, it’s not that often that I receive any feedback on our publication but it’s always great when it happens, be it a positive or negative comment. I like to take it all on board to improve what we do and make Ocean Road Magazine as good as it can be.

Please find below two recent emails, both complimentary and greatly appreciated. The first related to our recent story on the horror in Israel and a local family caught up in the Oct 7 events, and the second was a comment on my Editor’s Note in the Spring 2023 Edition.

Please feel free to email and let me know your thoughts. They are always of great interest, and I always respond. Email is best – [email protected]

Hi Brian

A friend sent me your article in your recent publication of Ocean Road Magazine about Israel and the Gold Coast family caught up in it.

I’m in tears after reading it. Not because of what happened because for that, I have been crying constantly since October 7.

I am crying because your words have touched me. I don’t think many people outside of our community get the full picture like you do. Most people assume we’re just greedy, want all the land and are bloodthirsty for Palestinian blood. Your clear view is certainly not the trendy one. As you said, we are peaceful people and all we want is peace and a place to live safely away from hate. It seems however that that is not our story, but our story is one of on and off war and constantly trying to prove our right to exist.

So when I heard your words that you are prepared to publish as an editor, I just had to reach out and say thank you.

I live in Sydney nowhere near the coverage of your magazine but I am so glad that someone sent it to me.

I wish you a peaceful year!

Love Jodi

Hi Brian

Just a quick note. Was looking at your Spring 2023 magazine again, before I recycle, and thought I should just drop you a quick note to commend you on including the Uluru Statement as a part of your editorial. Thank you. When journalism is at an all-time low (my opinion) and I rarely read MSM except to see what rubbish headline/fear tactic they are running that day…it is refreshing to note a publication that isn’t afraid to present the less promoted “NO”. As it turns out your finger was on the pulse and despite the usual push from corporations, media outlets, “celebrities” and government, sanity and common sense prevailed. However, no doubt you are aware that this fiasco is simply part of a worldwide push of a much bigger agenda than many care to see or realise.

All the best

Catherine
