Southport’s TRYP by Wyndham welcomes a wave of local and interstate visitors eager for luxury, convenience and a break from the everyday

Picture a winter escape where the sun is shining, humpback whales migrate majestically along the coast, and it’s not too far from the comfort of home—yet far enough that the household chores can take a back seat for a few days. (Well, not literally in there with the kids, who are yapping “Are we there yet?”)

Delighted parents are now piping up and answering that incessant question with glee, “Yep, we’re here already.”

Sunshine State families are flocking to TRYP by Wyndham, nestled in the vibrant heart of Southport, and a popular gem in Azzura Investment Limited’s $3.8 billion Imperial Square development.

Taking a staycation in your own backyard is becoming as popular as a refreshing dip in TRYP’s 25-metre infinity rooftop pool, with views stretching across to the Pacific Ocean.

A 2024 domestic tourism snapshot by Tourism & Events Queensland shows the Gold Coast recorded a significant rebound in domestic overnight visitation, with more than 4.3 million visitors in the year ending December 2024, up from 4.1 million in 2023.

That includes record numbers of visitors from the Sunshine Coast and NSW, while locals are also chipping in—with tourism now representing 4.4 per cent of the city’s economy. Intrastate visitation increased 3.2 per cent to 2.1 million, including a record 249,000 visitors from the Sunshine Coast—a 34.9 per cent increase over 2023.

With vacancy rates around 80 per cent and accommodation options to suit couples, families or even extended broods, TRYP by Wyndham is capitalising on the trend and welcoming a wave of interstate and local visitors.

There are 225 self-contained apartments, each offering spacious layouts and modern facilities to ensure maximum comfort, along with practical amenities for visitors—many of whom are from the Sunshine Coast and choosing to bypass Brisbane for the allure of the northern Gold Coast.

There’s alfresco dining with Italian and Mediterranean cuisine at Amore Ristorante, or the tantalising flavours of Rossa Pizzeria & Bar conveniently located on the entry level.

Relaxation and wellness are well catered for. Guests can soak in the serenity of the steam room, enjoy a sauna, or stay active in the state-of-the-art gym complete with hydration stations.

Managing Director of TRYP by Wyndham Southport, Roberta Grasso, beams when families arrive at the hotel developed by her family as part of a seven-year vision to enhance Southport.

“Seeing this project evolve is exciting, and our guests often make the comment that they cannot believe they’re in the heart of Southport,” she says.
“It’s close to all the Gold Coast attractions, so we cater to that market well by offering packages that appeal to the whole family. We have all the major theme parks on our doorstep and there’s so much for visitors to see and do.
“We are seeing a lot of locals from the northern Gold Coast who are enjoying the dining and live music we have here, and it’s great to see these people coming back into a re-energised Southport.”

Function and meeting space options cater for up to 60 people, including the rooftop Imperial Loungecocktail function space by the rooftop pool, and the Regal Lounge private dining room.

“Everything from small weddings to birthdays and corporate functions are catered for, and we are hosting a whole range of industries in these spaces,” says Roberta.

TRYP by Wyndham will play a pivotal role in the Imperial Square juggernaut, which is set to inject significant investment and a new level of sophistication and retail/tourism experiences into the Southport CBD.

“We are thrilled with the product—it has exceeded all expectations. To see confidence and investment returning to Southport is something special,” she says.

Winter getaway special offers are on now, including 25 per cent off two-bedroom apartments from June to August.
