20th anniversary of Sculpture by the Sea
WORDS: PHOTOGRAPHY
Every year, Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi attracts more than 500,000 visitors. For many locals it heralds the beginning of summer and over the 20 years it’s been running has become an essential inspirational coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama. In addition, of course, it provides a fantastic opportunity to take plenty of stunning photos of the 100 sculptures, which transform the beautiful 2km walk.
Sculpture by the Sea is the world’s largest annual free-to-the-public outdoor sculpture exhibition. If you haven’t checked it out yourself yet, this 20th anniversary year is definitely the time to mark 20 October – 6 November in your diary. Even the logo’s been given an artistic makeover to mark the anniversary to include circular form sculptures.
More than 100 works by Australian and international artists will be showcased
this year; including artist representation from Asia, Europe, Middle East, New Zealand, South America, UK and USA.
Aqualand has joined for the first time as Principal Sponsor and as part of the arrangement the $60,000 Aqualand Sculpture Award will be awarded to an exhibiting artist. Their sculpture will be gifted for permanent public enjoyment in Sydney.
